Under-Slab Copper Pipe Leak on Fairview Drive
The Problem: An Owensboro homeowner on Fairview Drive contacted us after discovering a localized warm spot on their kitchen linoleum floor and receiving a water bill showing a 300% consumption increase. They suspected an under-floor leak but dreaded having their entire kitchen slab excavated.
Diagnostics: We deployed high-frequency acoustic listening equipment (Fisher XLT-30) to trace the sound of pressurized water under the concrete. By testing localized sound frequency signatures and using digital moisture meters, we pinpointed the exact pinhole leak location beneath a 4-inch concrete slab directly in front of the kitchen sink.
Resolution: Instead of destroying the entire kitchen floor, we performed a targeted excavation of only 1 square foot of concrete. We cut out the corroded section of the bare copper pipe, which had failed due to soil electrolysis, and soldered in a highly durable section of Type K copper pipe. The soil was compacted, and the concrete slab was repoured, restoring full plumbing pressure with zero foundation damage.
